Robert Terrell photographs of homeless persons are in two exhibitions.
“Poverty & Protest,” photographs of political struggle and global poverty by Robert Terrell, professor of communication, and Francisco Dominguez, Sacramento photographer and art educator, will open May 7 at the Anna Edwards Gallery, 237 14th St., San Leandro.
The pieces will be at the gallery through May 31, and the opening reception will be from 6-9 p.m. The gallery is open 1-6 p.m. Thursdays, or by appointment by calling 510-636-1721
Terrell and Dominguez’s photographs also will be shown at San Leandro High School, 2200 Bancroft Ave., San Leandro, June 1-30, with the opening reception set for 6-9 p.m. June 4. A companion exhibit will show war resistance political posters from the Social Justice Academy at the high school.
Born into extreme poverty, Terrell has, for years, focused his cameras on the homeless of the world. His images have been shown in San Francisco, at the University of Indiana Northwest, and the University of Colorado, and in the July 2004 issue of “Street Spirit,” a weekly newspaper published in the East Bay by the American Friends Service Committee that deals primarily with problems of the homelessness.
Dominguez specializes in the cultural environment of Chicano history and culture, and has had his work in many California exhibitions.
