James MacDougald will be the guest speaker for the Smith Center for Private Enterprise Studies lecture series on Jan 26.  He will be discussing his new book, UNSUSTAINABLE - How Big Government, Taxes and Debt Are Wrecking America (2010 Marsden House), which exposes how governments at every level hide the pay and exorbitant pensions they provide to themselves and use accounting trickery to keep taxpayers from knowing of the enormous costs and long-term liabilities.”

In 1982, after 17 years in the employee benefits industry, MacDougald started a business in 1982 from his house that eventually grew to become ABR Information Services, Inc. with more than 1500 employees. ABR was named as one of "The Best 200 Small Companies in America" by Forbes Magazine in 1995, 1996 and 1997 and was acquired by Ceridian Corporation (NYSE:CEN) in 1999. MacDougald later became Chairman of the Board of Directors of Odyssey Marine Exploration, Inc. (NYSE:OMR). He is currently the president of The Free Enterprise Nation, Inc. (FEN), a non-partisan national membership/advocacy organization representing the individuals and businesses that make up the private sector, the "free enterprise" portion of the American economy.

The Smith Center lecture series is free and open to the public. Event starts at 2pm in room 311 of the old University Union.
