To celebrate Black History Month in February and Women’s History Month in March, the Muslim Student Association is accepting artwork related to Islam for its Islamic Art Gallery Exhibit until March 4. Art may include posters about African American and women Muslims and their contributions to history, Islam and humanity.

The Islamic Art Gallery Exhibit will run from noon to 9 p.m. on March 10 in the new University Union. Admission is free and open to the public. The exhibit’s main focus will be to showcase women and African Americans who are part of the Muslim community.

“People aren’t aware of Muslim women,” Vice-President of the Muslim Student Association Amani Sarary said. “Many others don’t relate Black History Month with Islam, and we want to make that connection.”

Along with an art exhibit, the event offers free drinks, food and snacks. A presentation of the movie “Prince Among Slaves” will follow in the evening.

“This event will inform everyone of the large diversity in Islam and will be a learning experience,” Sarary said.
