The Pioneers' accomplishments are starting to add up thanks to Cal State East Bay softball coach Barbara Pierce.

Pierce told Oakland Tribune reporter Matt Schwab, "We stress that you earn your wins in practice, and this group has stepped up and done the work." With a talented but unproven squad to start the season, Pierce and her coaching staff have tried to foster an expectation of success, wrote Schwab in his profile, "Softball coach Barbara Pierce has Cal State East Bay on positive track."

The Pioneers (11-13, 8-12 California Collegiate Athletic Association) are 8-2 at home and appear to have found their footing in the formidable CCAA. "We step on the field each day ready to play East Bay softball and expecting the good result that comes with that," said Pierce.

Pierce has led the women's softball program at Cal State East Bay since the summer of 2006. A graduate and former player at Penn State University, she has a wealth of experience as a NCAA Division I player and DIII coach. At Cal State East Bay, Pierce has coached NCAA Regional All-Americans, a Cal Pac Player of the Year, and numerous conference and division All-Team Selections.
