Springer Publishing will release a new book from Stephen J. Morewitz, lecturer in the department of nursing and health sciences, which addresses the rising number of chronic conditions diagnosed in children and adolescents. Chronic Disorders in Children and Adolescents (Springer, 2011) will be the sixth book from Morewitz that will be released by Springer, an international publisher focused on science, technology, and medicine.

Chronic Disorders provides an epidemiology of major chronic diseases among children and youth, including the 13 frequently encountered conditions: chromosomal abnormalities, autism, cerebral palsy, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, sensory integration dysfunction, conduct and oppositional defiant disorders, depressive disorders, eating disorders, childhood and adolescent obesity, diabetes mellitus, juvenile arthritis, and HIV/AIDS.

In describing the book, the publisher wrote, "Given the scope of its knowledge, Chronic Disorders in Children and Adolescents will be a go-to resource for a wide range of professionals and students across pediatrics, medicine, nursing, public health, mental health, education, health administration and policy, social work, and the social sciences."

Morewitz is an awards-winning author of seven previous books, including Death Threats and Violence (Springer, 2008), Aging and Chronic Disorders (Springer, 2007), Chronic Diseases and Health Care (Springer, 2006), Domestic Violence and Maternal and Child Health (Springer, 2004), and Stalking and Violence (Springer, 2003).
