Larry VanDeusen, Art ’76, has several pieces in a new exhibition at the “Cinema Place Art Gallery,” operated by the Hayward Arts Council, at 1061 B St.

A reception will be held from 5-7 p.m. Friday, April 27. Gallery hours are Sunday and Wednesdays, noon-4 p.m., and noon-9 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. The open call exhibition of 171 two- and three-D works in a variety of media continues through May 27.

The artist uses the collage method for the composition of his non-linear paintings.

He thinks of these paintings as a metaphor for the modern world where we understand that at all levels everything is connected to everything else. He is not interested in the symbolic nature of any particular object, but rather is interested in the connections that the object brings to the work as an association that gives the whole painting some kind of meaning.

VanDeusen has shown extensively in the United States and Europe with 16 solo and 45 group shows, as well as at many art festivals, open studios, artist panels, and television interviews and discussions.
