The endless potholes, orange cones and snarled traffic are no doubt wearing thin on Cal State East Bay commuters. Erik Kurhi of the Oakland Tribune reported that the entire Route 238 Corridor Improvement Project is now expected to be completed spring 2013. Read article.

While it might seem like road work will never end, final improvements will include an extra traffic lane extending south to Carlos Bee Boulevard to help accommodate Cal State East Bay traffic, improved intersections along the entire corridor, buried utility lines, a landscaped median, rejuvenated sidewalks and a deep layer of seamless asphalt.

CSUEB drivers should note:

  • Work that recently began on Foothill Boulevard north of A Street, where Pacific Gas and Electric crews are relocating and upgrading their utilities will last until the end of this year.
  • The stretch from Calhoun Street to Harder on Mission Boulevard will be finished in October.
  • Extensive work in the downtown area, where a loop of one-way streets will be constructed, will start this summer and take a year to complete.
