CSUEB faculty keynote speaker at Department of Defense's Asian Pacific Islander celebration

Marie Mallare-Jimenez, lecturer in the department of modern literature and languages, was the keynote speaker at the U.S. Department of Defense, Defense Contract Management Agency for the 5th Asian Pacific Islander American Celebration: Leadership, Diversity, Empowerment and Beyond at the U.S. Military installation in Lathrop, California. She spoke on the importance of Asian Pacific Islanders in the workforce, and shared an original clip of her law student work entitled “Stereotypes”.

Prior to teaching, Mallare-Jimenez worked with the City and County of San Francisco in three mayoral administrations. She also served as Commissioner and Vice Chair to the San Francisco Immigrant Rights Commission (IRC), writing legislation to deter unlawful detaining of immigrants from the Latino and Asian communities. During her administration, the IRC declared San Francisco, an “INS Raid-Free Zone”. A member-at-large with the San Francisco Sunshine Task Force, she represented ethnic media in working for transparency for local government issues.

Mallare-Jimenez was also the former news anchor of Filipino-American Report on KMTP-TV 32 that was broadcasted to the Bay Area, Guam, and Hawaii.
