See snakes and sea slugs, cast fossils and watch a dean perform chemistry magic at Science Festival 2011 Saturday, Oct. 29 on Cal State East Bay’s Hayward campus, 25800 Carlos Bee Blvd.

The festival, offering free admission and parking, is open to the public and science lovers of all ages. It is the first of the science festivals being held by Bay Area institutions for 2011-2012.

Hosted by CSUEB’s College of Science, the festival will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Science buildings and the Valley Business and Technology Center on campus.

Previous festivals hosted by Cal State East Bay have each drawn more than 5,000 attendees, and a similar size or larger crowd is expected to attend the 2011 event.

"California State University East Bay’s College of Science has a tradition of opening its facilities to the community with the goal of bringing science awareness to the largest possible audience, " said Michael Leung, Dean for the College of Science. "By joining forces with the Bay Area Science Festival, we will make that happen.  We look forward to outside exhibitors joining our faculty and students in making our festival very special.  The Science Festival is an important event to the university, as Cal State East Bay is committed to an increased focus on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) education as a way of preparing our students to fill the current and future workforce needs of this region."
