Gail Lew, MA music ’09, has been awarded the top honor at the annual National Conference on Keyboard Pedagogy for her research paper based on the work she did at Cal State East Bay.

Her competition consisted of professors of music at major universities in the United States, Canada, and Europe. Most of the applicants held Doctor of Music Arts or a Ph.D. in music.

“I think that this says a great deal about the quality of education that I received at CSU East Bay,” said Lew.

“I think I can speak for all of us who worked with you that we are proud of you for this achievement,” said Peter Marsh, assistant professor of music.

Lew’s paper will soon by published by the NCKP.

Lew is the former director of keyboard publications for Warner Bros. Music and currently serves as Editor and New Music Reviewer for the "California Music Teacher" magazine, among other roles.

She teaches at Las Positas College, and is an adjudicator for state, national, and international events.
