Graduate students in the clinical child and school psychology program at Cal State East Bay celebrated National School Psychology Awareness Week by educating students and community members about the field of school psychology.

In keeping with the week’s theme, “Every Link Matters. Make a Connection,” CSUEB graduate students Nadia Malliarys and Casey Rivers gave a presentation to students at Alameda High School. Their presentation – titled “School Psychology: A Career That Makes a Difference” - addressed the role and responsibilities of school psychologists, the benefits of the school psychology profession and the steps to becoming a school psychologist.

"Our school psychology students relish the opportunity to make lasting connections with education professionals, clients, families, students, and community members. Making a difference and improving services are goals our students strive to achieve," said Oahn Tran, assistant professor of educational psychology.

Handouts and brochures were distributed to the students after the presentation. “Students listened to us attentively and took notes,” said Malliarys. “We received detailed questions from one student who appeared especially interested in the school psychology profession.”

Both Malliarys and Rivers expect to graduate in June 2013.
