Pope, Terrance recognized as Pioneer "Athletes of the Week'

Baseball player Michael Pope and basketball player Brianna Terrance were recognized as Cal State East Bay's “Athletes of the Week” for their winning contributions for the Pioneers last week. 

Pope got two starts for the Pioneers last week, earning his first two victories of the season as East Bay opened the season 7-0. He threw five innings and struck out nine batters, earning the win in last Monday's 5-2 win over Central Washington. The sophomore came back and pitched on Sunday in the finale against Oregon Tech and shut down the Owls for six innings. He allowed just one hit and one walk in the 9-2 victory. For the week, Pope was 2-0 with a 1.64 ERA. He allowed just five hits and struck out 14 in 11.0 innings of work. 

In the three victories by the Pioneers last week, Terrance averaged 11.7 points and 3.7 rebounds, while shooting 63.6 percent on 14-of-22 from the field. Terrance scored 18 points and pulled down seven rebounds in the Pioneers' 45-39 victory over Cal State Monterey Bay, her best game of the season. Against Cal State LA, Terrance scored 13 points on 5-of-6 from the field as the Pioneers defeated the Golden Eagles 60-47. Terrance leads the Pioneers in scoring for the season (8.5 ppg) and in CCAA play (8.6 ppg).
