Cal State East Bay alumnus Stephan Bering is the new principal of Solana Santa Fe School in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif. He has 17-years of education experience and earned his master’s degree in educational leadership at Cal State East Bay.

He told the Santa Fe Rancho Review that although he is a fourth generation ice cream maker, he always knew he wanted to be an educator. “I always knew that I wanted to be a principal. I love the leadership role of coordinating the whole ship,” Bering said. “I joke I loved education so much that I never left, I just switched sides — even though there are no sides because we’re all in this together."

He believes the Solana Santa Fe School, a close-knit school community, is the model for public education and is excited to assume the role of principal and meet supportive parents with whom he has been contacting via email. Bering is looking forward to continuing the culture of excellence at Solana Santa Fe School as the school transitions to the Common Core State Standards in the 2014-15 school year, along with all public schools in California.

Congrats, Principal Bering!
