To register online you will need your CA driver’s license or CA ID card number, the last 4 digits of your Social Security number and your birthday to register online.

Then, follow these steps:

1. Go to https://registertovote.ca.gov/?t=s.
2. Check the option the applies to you, then click ‘Next’.
3. Input the rest of your information into the California State Voter Registration Form.
4. Select CSU East Bay for University or College affiliation.
5. Carefully, review your information, then submit your form.
6. You’ll receive an email confirmation of your application.

You should update your voter registration if:

• Your name has changed.
• You have changed addresses.
• Your political party affiliation has changed.

Californians must be registered to vote at least 15 days before Election Day. If you missed the deadline to apply, you can go to a polling place or vote center to register. You will be able to register and vote on the same day - all the way up through Election Day.

While we know that not everyone may be eligible to vote, your voice still matters. Share the issues that are important to you with your friends and family members. Or, better yet, make your voice heard to your local state or federal representative (senator or congressperson). Everyone can engage in critical dialogue about candidates, legislation, and statewide propositions. Every voice is needed in our community!

Most voters can choose to vote by mail. Request a ballot, follow the instructions carefully, and return it by the deadline.

If you have No Party Preference (NPP), here’s how it works depending on the kind of election:

In the primary election, you vote for who you want to represent your party in the November General Election.

In addition, there are ballot measures and office positions to consider (Alameda County and Contra Costa County).

A general election is the main election held where voters choose among candidates who won their primaries, along with any qualified independent or write-in candidates, to fill public offices.

Special elections occur when an office becomes vacant or a measure needs voter approval before the next regular election.
