Newly admitted freshmen, transferring students and their families are invited to get an advanced look at university life at California State University, East Bay April 13 when the university hosts Welcome Day 2013 on the Hayward campus, 25800 Carlos Bee Blvd.

The event will be held at the New University Union lawn area from 8:45 a.m. through 12:15 p.m.

Participants will be able to speak to representatives from each of the university’s colleges and administrative departments about programs and information including financial aid, student life, housing and residence life. Tours of the campus also will be conducted.

“We try to push the 'students first' philosophy,” in which student access and success rank among the university’s top priorities, said Amanda Segura, director of enrollment development for CSUEB.

Participants will have the opportunity for one-on-one talks with faculty about their individual education goals. Participants also will meet current Cal State East Bay students and hear about university life from their perspective.

Registration starts at 8 a.m. or may be completed online for students already admitted to the university. Cal State East Bay welcomes persons with disabilities and will provide reasonable accommodations upon request. Please note needed accommodations on the online registration form.

Free parking for the event will be available in lots A, B and all general lots.

Segura also invited Cal State East Bay faculty to volunteer to help welcome the 2,800 expected students. She added that recruiting new students is a “university-wide effort,” and meeting the prospective students can be an exciting experience for faculty.
