Academic and Study Support

Cal State East Bay is committed to your success with a dedicated faculty, academic advising, academic support programs, tutoring services, technical resources and library facilities.

Academic Advising

Freshmen receive advising at the General Education Office. An initial advising appointment is provided during orientation.

Transfer students can receive advising at the Academic Advising and Career Education (AACE) Center at the Hayward Campus, and the Academic Services Center at the Concord Campus. Advising for major requirements is provided in individual academic departments. An initial advising appointment is provided during orientation.

Graduate students can receive advising for major requirements in individual academic departments.

If you need help from an academic advisor to choose your classes, select a major, or discuss your academic standing, use the Academic Advising chart.

Academic Support Programs

We’re with you all the way with a full range of study and support programs to assist you with successful completion of your course work. Tutoring services in math and writing, accelerated programs for working adults, and special programs for low-income, first-generation, and former foster youth are among the many ways we support students earning their degrees.

Tutoring Services

Tutoring services are free and available at the Hayward Campus at the Student Center for Academic Achievement (SCAA). A staff of peer tutors connects with you on your level. Workshops include writing test preparation, grammar review, graduate writing, APA documentation and academic success strategies.

Educational Opportunity Program (EOP)

The Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) provides advising for California students with economically and educationally disadvantaged backgrounds. To access this program, students should apply when they apply to the University. EOP serves qualifying students who have a history of low income, need academic support services, and demonstrate the potential to succeed at Cal State East Bay. For EOP advising call (510) 885-3751. EXCEL Program

The EXCEL Program offers eligible students comprehensive advising services and information for students, or who are first-generation college students, or qualified low-income students, or disabled students who are registered with the Office of Accessibility Services.

The PACE Program

The PACE Program offers a fast track for upper division students to complete their bachelor’s degree while working. PACE is designed to help you balance the demands of a full time job and family. Majors are offered in Human Development or Liberal Studies with classes offered one or two nights each week, on Saturdays, or via the Internet. Renaissance Scholars for Foster Youth

The Renaissance Scholars for Foster Youth Program supports college access for students who were former foster youth. Program support services include:

  • Year-round on-campus housing
  • Priority registration
  • Tutoring and mentoring
  • Scholarships and emergency financial assistance
  • Academic, career, and financial aid advising
  • Psychological counseling
  • Career development and internship opportunities
  • Workshops, social activities and field trips
