Consider making a Student of Concern Report for a student with any of the following:

Academic Challenges

  • Serious attendance concerns - not responsive after several outreaches
  • Sudden drop in performance on assignments
  • At risk of failing course
  • Persistent, inappropriate communication about a course or assignment

Consult first with your Chair, and file a Care report if concerns persist.

Behavioral Challenges

  • Disruptive behavior
  • Patterns of conflict with others
  • Withdrawn, isolated
  • Inappropriate behavior in class

If the student's conduct is clearly reckless, disorderly, or dangerous, please immediately contact the University Police Department 510-885-3791 or 911 before filing a Care report.

Personal Challenges

  • Family crisis or personal loss
  • Significant life changes
  • Significant financial needs
  • Disclosure of interpersonal violence

Reporter names are kept anonymous to students.  Students will then be contacted by a Student Care Team member with available support resources.

For non-immediate concerns, please also see the CSUEB Student Support Chart: A Resource for Faculty and Staff.

The campus has also created guides for deescalating difficult situations in the classroom and on campus.  The Classroom Issues and Guidance for Faculty is on the Academic Senate website, and the Student Issues and Guidance for Staff is here.
