Welcome to the department

If you are a new and incoming MS student in the Statistic and Biostatistics program - this message is for you.

The department is hosting an orientation for all new Masters students in the program on Thursday, August 15th, at 4:00 pm. The orientation will be led by Prof. Joshua Kerr, our graduate advisor. This meeting will be in a hybrid format, if you are able, please join us on campus or on Zoom. If you are already in the program - you are welcome to join and meet the new students. Most of the information will be familiar to you though.

Please come to SC-S 213. The Zoom details are posted in Canvas. No RSVP is required.

We hope to see you all in person. This is a great opportunity to meet your fellow colleagues and ask your most pressing questions. We will also record the meeting

We had a blast at the 2nd Annual Data Fest!

The 2nd Annual Data Fest hosted by the Department of Statistics and Biostatistics - in partnership with the American Statistical Association (ASA) – was a success with over 45 students from different departments and Skyline community college. With some amazing mentorship and hard work, students learned data wrangling on an entirely different level.

DataFest is a celebration of data in which teams of undergraduate & graduate students work around the clock to find and share meaning in a large, rich, and complex data set.

A special shout out to Professor Eric Fox for leading the efforts in hosting the event.

Best in Show - Dan Hoang, Esther Ki and Gyubeen Park

Best Use of Statistical Analysis - Taylor Hansen, Huiting Wu, Matt Ko and Thao Tran

Best Visualization - Dongping Guo, Gurjas Singh, Peter Nguyen and Rohan Bierneni
