ACUE Course in Effective Online Teaching Practices

In 2021-22 CSUEB joined the Scaling Instructional Excellence for Student Success: ACUE, NASH, CSU collaboration. The grant provides multiple CSU campuses with a year-long, evidence-based faculty development program in support of effective instruction. Twenty-two faculty members enrolled in the Association of College and University Educators “Course in Effective Online Teaching Practices,” a 25-module, academic-year-long professional development cohort experience. This course was facilitated by Kate Bell, Communications, and Elizabeth Wright, Kinesiology, who also completed the course. Faculty from all colleges participated. Modules cover topics such as Learner Engagement, Active Learning, Lifelong Learning, and Course Design. Course content is an effective mix of engaging instructor interviews, teaching scenarios, implementation resources, discussion forums, and reflections.

This initiative provided the opportunity to gather institutional data and student and faculty participant feedback to understand the impact of training in teaching strategies on student learning and success. An midyear report from NASH (National Association of System Heads) showed substantial uptake of new strategies and student recognition of evidenced-based practices.

ACUE Course Certificate holders were recognized during the May 6th at the spring Celebration of Teaching,
