Freshman Orientation

The Office of Student Life and Leadership Programs coordinates the university's New Student and Family Orientation programs. Orientation is designed to help you make a successful transition into our University. Orientation Team Leaders and University staff will guide you through the program. Get ready for an exciting experience as you meet new people, make new friends, and learn how to succeed as a Pioneer!

What are the different types of Freshman orientation programs?

All of our Freshman orientation sessions are two full days (roughly 8:00am - 5:30pm each day) in-person at the Hayward campus.  For two of the sessions, we also offer an additional Pioneer Overnight Experience (running 5:30pm - 11:30pm the first night).

The Pioneer Overnight Experience is a chance to meet other Pioneers in a smaller setting, take part in exciting evening activities, and stay overnight on campus in the dorms, also called Pioneer Housing.

The overnight option is a valuable opportunity for students who may be traveling from out of the area, as overnight lodging is provided.  It's also a valuable opportunity for local Pioneers who will not have a chance to experience on-campus housing any other time!  To maximize your orientation experience, get a feel of campus life, and have the opportunity to stay overnight in Pioneer Housing, join us for this exciting opportunity!
