Construction Underway on New GBI Rare Plant Garden Outside Braddock Center

Construction has begun on a new rare plant garden outside the Braddock Center. The outdoor garden, part of the Green Biome Institute’s expanding presence on campus, will showcase rare and endangered California native plants that the institute studies and conserves through genomic research. The project aims to create a living exhibit that highlights the biodiversity of California’s threatened flora while supporting hands-on learning opportunities for students and researchers.

Determining the Original Rudy Boysen and Knott's Berry Farm Boysenberry! The iconic Boysenberry that made Knott's Berry farm famous was actually lost, no original plants were known to exist until Nettie Boysen Fitzgerald; granddaughter of Rudy Boysen went on a search to locate a stand of the original berries at an old friend's house. The GBI is genetically testing various varieties of Boysenberries to confirm the original plant and close Boysenberry relatives.
