Bachelor of Science in Economics

Economics, B.S. Program

Please consult an advisor in your major department for clarification and interpretation of your major requirements. The major consists of 60 units; the B.S. degree requires a total of 120 units.

Major Requirements:

  1. Lower Division Core (21 Units)
    Students are required to take the following  seven (7) courses for 21 units.
    • MATH 115 - College Algebra Units: 3; GE/GR Area: B4
    • MATH 180 - Mathematics for Business with Calculus Units: 3; GE/GR Area: B4
    • STAT 100 - Elements of Statistics and Probability Units: 3; GE/GR Area: B4
    • ECON 200 - Principles of Microeconomics Units: 3; GE/GR Area: D1-3; Social Justice
    • ECON 205 - Principles of Macroeconomics Units: 3; GE/GR Area: D1-3
    • ECON 210 - Quantitative Methods for Economists Units: 3
    • ECON 211 - Programming for Data Analysts Units: 3
      Note: MATH 180 can be substituted with MATH 130. STAT 100 can be substituted with STAT 110. ECON 211 can be substituted with CS 100 or CS 101.
  2. Upper Division Core (21 Units)
    Students are required to take the following seven (7) courses for 21 units:
    • ECON 300 - Microeconomic Theory I Units: 3
    • ECON 301 - Microeconomic Theory II Units: 3
    • ECON 305 - Macroeconomic Theory Units: 3
    • ECON 306 - Money, Banking, & Financial Intermediaries Units: 3; GE/GR Area: D4
    • ECON 310 - Introduction to Econometrics Units: 3
    • ECON 400 - Game Theory Units: 3
    • ECON 499 - Capstone: Empirical Analysis Units: 3
  3. Elective Courses (18 Units)
    Choose six (6) courses for 18 units from the following list:
    • ECON 320 – History of Economic Thought Units: 3
