Application Process

Sankofa is a learning community designed to support transfer students, to increase academics and personal success. This program addresses students' needs through academic support services and curriculum focused on African-American themes, topics, and issues. Sankofa is for students who are serious about getting a good education, willing to work hard, and want to study the topics covered in our course content. Sankofa students will gain the tools for greater persistence, resiliency, and success in the university environment.

Priority deadline for the Sankofa application is March 1st. 

The Application process consists of the following:

  1. Personal Information
  2. Two Essay Questions requiring a response of no more than 300 words each.
  3. Recommender: One (1) letter of recommendation from for example your counselor (Umoja, high school counselor, etc.), teacher, work supervisor, or someone familiar with your previous academic work, or who can comment on your background, experience, capacity to succeed and motivation.
  4. Statement of Commitment which is included within your application packet. We ask that you read and initial each statement and then sign at the bottom of the section.
