Evelyn Buchanan Appointed Vice President for University Advancement

Dear Cal State East Bay community,

I am pleased to announce that Evelyn Buchanan has accepted the role of Vice President for University Advancement. She will join us May 2.

Ms. Buchanan joins us from Chico State, where she has served as Associate Vice President of Development and Campaign Manager since 2018. She brings more than 25 years of prior experience as a vice president for advancement programs at Carthage College and Franklin Pierce University and leadership roles at Colgate University, SUNY Empire State College and the Culinary Institute of America. As a nontraditional adult student, Evelyn received her undergraduate degree from SUNY Empire State College and her master’s degree in nonprofit management from New England College.

During her interview process, Ms. Buchanan and I spoke about our shared vision to work throughout the university to develop strategies to align institutional priorities with philanthropic and regional opportunities. From her experience in comprehensive campaigns to her successes leveraging alumni and corporate relationships to benefit students directly, I am confident that Ms. Buchanan’s broad expertise and innovative approach will elevate Cal State East Bay’s connections and integration throughout the greater region.

The Vice President for University Advancement has a crucial role in the plans and resources that will enhance our university, including raising our reputation and visibility and engaging our alumni and others who care deeply about Cal State East Bay. In addition, the tangible returns of new private support and industry partnerships will support all of our work providing students the resources they need for their education and futures.

Please join me in thanking the search committee for their efforts to recruit Ms. Buchanan to Cal State East Bay: Erik Helgren, Nora Muñoz, Carolyn Nelson, Sarah Nielsen, Asha Rao, Amy Schioldager, Carrie Stewart and Garvin Tso. Additionally, I would like to acknowledge alumna Carrie Stewart for her continued interim leadership of University Advancement through the transition.

With warm regards,

Cathy Sandeen
