ASI President's Message on DACA

Photo of ASI President Samantha Quiambao

Dear Pioneers,

I am very disappointed with the decision to rescind the Deferred Action on Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. As your ASI President, I represent all students, including those who are undocumented. I promise to continue my support during this time to all of our DACA students. Associated Students Incorporated will be doing everything in our power to advocate for, protect and support our undocumented students, as they are a vital asset to our campus. Per our 2016-2017 resolution to support and protect undocumented students at CSUEB, we are committed to fully support and stand by undocumented students to access and pursue education opportunities at Cal State East Bay.

Please rest assured that Cal State East Bay will not be entering any agreements with state or local law enforcement agencies, Homeland Security, ICE or any other federal department for the enforcement of federal immigration law. Your Associated Students Incorporated will be available to provide any support possible and have many forms of advocacy to get your voices heard including the following:

  • Text ‘RESIST’ to 50409 or follow this link to find out how to get your message sent to congress in under two minutes
  • Find your congressional leaders here & call them with the following script being used around the CSU System
    • “Hi, my name is _____, and I’m calling from (say your City, State, and my zip code). I am a student at (say the name of your campus).I’m deeply concerned about the impacts of President Trump’s choice to rescind the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA). I strongly oppose this choice the President has made, which has helped over 800,000 undocumented immigrant youth access new opportunities in work and education. I urge the (Senator/Representative) to do everything in their power to protect 800,000 DACA-recipients from deportation and support their right to work and study in this country. Additionally, I ask that (Senator/Representative) support a clean passage of the Dream Act of 2017 (S.1615/H.R.3440). Thank you for your time.”
  • The ASI Office, located in the Old Union 314 is open Monday to Thursday from 9am to 4pm and Friday from 9am-3pm. We are always open to speaking to students on how this is affecting them, and we will be available to help with phone banking and letter writing.

Lastly, ASI will continue to support and empower all students to have their voices heard! To keep up with our advocacy efforts, please follow our social media or come to the office to speak to your Board of Directors.

Sincerely,

Samantha Quiambao
