Before you complete your online Departmental Application, make sure you have the following documents and information ready:
- Your response to two applicant statements:
- Briefly describe your near term goals (i.e. 5 years from now) that explain why you want to pursue a biotech certificate and/or MS degree in the Department of Biological Sciences at CSUEB (up to 250 words).
- Briefly describe your research experience (if any) obtained from lab courses, independent study and/or a job (up to 250 words).
- Unofficial Transcript. A scan or print screen of your unofficial transcript from your degree granting institution is sufficient. Save as a JPEG or PDF file.
- List of science courses taken but not included in your unofficial transcript (OPTIONAL). Save as an Excel, Word or PDF file. Indicate institution, course #, descriptive title, grade, and year taken.
- The names and email addresses of three individuals that are willing to write a letter of recommendation in support of your application.
- The GRE is NOT REQUIRED.
With your documents on hand, begin the departmental application. The application will first ask you to choose your program of interest. Choose BCP only.
Finally, have three letters of recommendation emailed to the graduate coordinator, Dr. Maria Gallegos (maria.gallegos@csueastbay.edu).
- For letters that will be emailed (preferred), ask your letter writer to craft a letter on official letterhead and email from a work email address. Letters from gmail or equivalent will not be accepted.
- If email is not possible, send letters of recommendation to the following address:
Attn. Graduate Coordinator
Department of Biological Sciences,
California State University, East Bay
25800 Carlos Bee Blvd.
Hayward, CA 94542
Please note that your application packet may not be reviewed until it is complete and submitted by the deadline (including both the University and departmental applications).
