California State University, East Bay-Department of Mathematics

Welcome to Math! Our undergraduate and graduate programs are designed for a diverse set of students, from recent high school graduates to returning and non-traditional students. Our faculty strives to create equitable, inclusive, anti-racist spaces for our students to grow, learn, and flourish as mathematical thinkers. We believe in building a strong sense of community through support from peers, Learning Assistants, Graduate Teaching Assistants, group learning in small class sizes, and ample interaction with Faculty. Math sits at the intersection of quantitative reasoning, applications, and making sense of the world, and we look forward to engaging with you as you build the skills to pursue your future.

"Almost every faculty member is actively involved in research and we prioritize creating opportunities for our students to engage in learning outside the classroom." -Dept. Chair

With Gratitude

Chung-Hsing OuYang and Chung-Shih Pan Endowment

The Cal State East Bay Department of Mathematics is thrilled and deeply grateful to announce a generous $2 Million donation to establish the Chung-Hsing OuYang and Chung-Shih Pan Endowment. Through the MacKenzie Scott Gift, qualifying endowments are matched by up to 50%, allowing this extraordinary $2 million gift to become a $3 million endowment supporting our department and its future.

We recognize that with this extraordinary opportunity comes an equally important responsibility to put this generosity to work in service of the values and commitments we hold as a department. We accept that responsibility with excitement, gratitude, and a deep sense of honor. This endowment will help us continue working toward becoming the department we always strive to be, a place where students and faculty are supported in pursuing the beauty of mathematics, where doors are opened to new opportunities, and where all of us can learn, discover, find joy, and flourish in mathematics. We are profoundly grateful for the Chung-Hsing OuYang and Chung-Shih Pan Endowment and for the belief it represents in our department, our students, and what we are all building together.
