You must be 18 years of age and a U.S. citizen to vote in California. However, if you are age 16 or 17, you may pre-register to vote.

Legal residents of California who are not U.S. citizens, and undocumented California residents are not eligible to register or vote. Californians with a criminal history are eligible to register and vote under certain conditions.

You should update your voter registration if:

• Your name has changed.
• Your address has changed.
• Your political party affiliation has changed.

The deadline to register to vote in the November 5th General Election is October 21, 2024. If you missed the deadline to apply, you can go to a polling place or vote center to register. You will be able to register and vote on the same day - all the way up through Election Day.

While we know that not everyone may be eligible to vote, your voice still matters. Share the issues that are important to you with your friends and family members. Or, better yet, make your voice heard to your local state or federal representative (senator or congressperson). Everyone can engage in critical dialogue about candidates, legislation, and statewide propositions. Every voice is needed in our community!

In a General Election, you can vote for any candidate of any party regardless of what party you are registered with or if you are registered with no party preference.
