LA Success Stories

Upon earning their undergraduate degrees, STEM LAB Learning Assistants typically pursue graduate school, teaching credential programs, or jobs in their chosen fields. We are so proud of our LAs who find success on different paths. Here are this year’s LA Alumni Spotlights:

Femi was a Statistics LA for the STEM LAB (previously known as the Math Lab) during the first year: Fall 2018 - Spring 2019. He graduated in Spring 2019 with a B.S. in Health Sciences: Pre-Clinical Preparation. While at CSUEB, he prepared a literature review on “Chronic Conditions Among the Elderly Increases the U.S. Total Healthcare Costs”, conducted research on “Policies in Battling the Opioid Epidemic”, and created a Policy Map on “Colon Cancer Rates for African-Americans in Alameda County”. He is currently a Senior Behavior Therapist at ABA Plus Inc. and a Registered Nursing student at Los Medanos College. He will be graduating with his R.N. in Spring 2023.

Femi says, “The Math Lab was a happy place for many including myself. It was my go-to hangout spot and I was always there whether I was tutoring or not. I am so glad to have been a part of it!”

While at CSUEB, she participated in her first hackathon where she stayed on campus for 24 hours and learned a lot from the experience! She is currently a Security System Administrator at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory where she manages who has access to systems, improves methods of authentication, and revamps the system for better threat detection.

Sunshine says, “Not only did the Math Lab become my family, they prepared me for my future. I got to see the diversity of learning and teaching styles and find ways to work together. They have given me an understanding of what having a community is like and an opportunity to meet various unique personalities and backgrounds.”
