What can I expect for this summer’s orientations?

Orientation Update as of 7/16/20:

Part 1 of Orientation, Zoom Sessions, begins July 8.  Check your horizon email account for details; we’ll be emailing further details about a week prior to each Zoom session.  If you didn’t receive an email, please review a SAMPLE email here

To prepare for your Zoom session, please visit our Part 1: Zoom webpage.

If you have not yet signed up for orientation, do so now!  For a list of session dates and how to register, click on the Freshman orientation page.  After you register for orientation, visit:

All our in-person orientation sessions have been moved to an online/virtual format which will consist of three parts:

The Basics:

  • Our Zoom sessions are tentatively scheduled to take place throughout July, and will last 1 hour each.
  • We will host 10 Freshman Zoom sessions and 16 Transfer Zoom sessions.
  • When orientation registration opens, you will select a day/time and sign up for a specific session. There will be roughly 150 other new students also participating in your Zoom meeting.
  • You will be provided the Zoom link and instructions in advance, and join the Zoom meeting on your specific day/time you signed up for.

What does this portion cover?

  • This portion will provide an overview of the University and what to expect for orientation. You will also have opportunity to connect with our Orientation Team Leaders, who are eager to assist you and ensure you have a smooth transition to the University.  They will be available throughout summer to answer questions you may have!
  • Lastly, this portion will also provide next steps on how to access Part 2 via Blackboard.

The Basics:

  • Blackboard is Cal State State East Bay’s Learning Management System.
  • You will complete this portion next, and it is done at your own pace.
  • This portion will be available July 27 through end of August.
  • As it will take a few hours to complete, we recommend you complete this portion in multiple sittings rather than all at once.

What does this portion cover?

  • This portion will provide an overview of campus resources, services, and departments.
  • You will also learn about your rights as a student, and what Cal State East Bay expects of you as a Pioneer

The Basics:

  • Part of a successful transition to Cal State East Bay is getting connected and engaged with campus life.  This portion is designed to help you do just that!

What does this portion cover?

  • connect with fellow incoming students
  • get your questions answered by our student leaders
  • learn about clubs and orgs on campus and how to get involved
  • meet department staff
  • prepare yourself for a strong start to the school year

Please note that advising and course registration is not dependent on orientation.  For more information about academic advising, please send an email with your name, net ID and questions to the Freshman student email: f20frosh@csueastbay.edu or the Transfer student email: f20transfer@csueastbay.edu
