The Speech Lab

The Speech Lab at The SCAA is an important initiative of the Department of Communication. With faculty direction, the Speech Lab is staffed by students who have taken public speaking and/or other communication courses and have been intentionally trained to help their peers. Speech Lab Tutors provide support and assistance to the campus community for presentations, public speaking, and other communication-related assignments. Tutors offer a wide range of services such as:

  • Topic selection
  • Research direction
  • Organization of information
  • Speech notes or outline checklists and critiques
  • Overcoming communication apprehension and “speech nerves”
  • Presentation and speech practice feedback
  • Recording assistance
  • Advice on use of presentation aids
  • and more!

Looking to work one-on-one with a Speech Lab Tutor? Schedule a one-hour, 1:1 appointment with a Speech Lab Tutor (in-person or online) through the SCAA's Nimbus Learning scheduling app: download the mobile app or visit the web app (no download required). The Speech Lab supports an array of courses across the curriculum.

Tutors post availability Monday through Friday (virtual options only after 5pm). In-person tutoring takes place in the CORE Building, Room 343.
