Tutoring

EXCELs developmental tutoring philosophy is to develop the student's self-confidence, academic ability, and personal responsibility by providing resource referrals for individual tutoring that includes assistance with course content and learning skills.

An on-campus tutoring resource is the Student Center for Academic Achievement (SCAA) located on the 3rd floor of the CORE Building (Room 343). The SCAA provides content Peer Tutoring for writing across the curriculum, and for a number of math, statistics, and science courses. Peer Academic Coaching is also available to help students navigate their academics and get the most out of their college experience. The SCAA houses the Online Writing Lab (OWL) and also oversees course-embedded, collaborative support through its Writing Associates (WA) and Supplemental Instruction (SI) programs. There are no additional costs for students to use the SCAA, and support is offered six days a week in both in-person and virtual formats. For more information, contact 510-885-3674 or SCAA@csueastbay.edu.

EXCEL and SCAA also provide academic success workshops such as note taking, time management and writing a personal statement. Online academic resources for students are available here.
