At the end of each Semester Student Housing will conduct a break check prior to departing for the break. Your Resident Assistant will be coming to your apartment, suite, and bedroom during the following day and using the following process:
Winter Break – Friday during finals week from 11am-5pm
- Resident Assistant will key into your apartment, suite, and bedroom.
- Resident Assistant will be looking for the following:
- Trash, Recycle, and Organics have been removed and taken to outside trash enclosures.
- Apartments/Suites are free of trash and clutter.
- All counters are wiped down.
- Sinks are wiped down.
- Dishes are cleaned.
- Shower/Tub is wiped down.
- Floors are not cluttered.
- Lights are turned off.
- Furniture is removed from balconies and out of rainy weather.
- Furniture taken from study lounge or another location in Housing is returned.
- Broken Furniture(Bed rails, ladders, broken drawers, desks).
- Broken Appliances/Fixtures(Toilet running, toilet paper holder broke, shower rail broke, leaky faucet, a hole bigger than a quarter, broken outlet covers).
- Windows/Doors are closed and locked.
- Appliances (personal refrigerator, coffee machines, toasters, etc...) and small personal electronics (alarm clock, chargers, printers, etc...) are unplugged from the electrical outlet.
If a Resident Assistant finds a violation of the License Agreement they will enter it as an Incident Report and you will go through the conduct process.
If a Resident Assistant finds a broken appliance or fixture a maintenance request will be submitted on your behalf. FACILITIES MAY BE ENTERING YOUR APARTMENT, SUITE, AND/OR BEDROOM TO COMPLETE THE REPAIR DURING THE BREAK WITHOUT NOTICE.
The Resident Assistant will leave a copy of the break checklist in your kitchen or dining room for your viewing.
As a reminder, if leaving for the break please unplug your alarm clocks and any other devices that may go off while you are away. The Resident Assistant and/or Housing Staff may unplug items while you're away to reduce power consumption and for safety in the residence hall.
