Promise Entrepreneurship Initiative (PEI)

The Hayward Promise Entrepreneurship Initiative (PEI) seeks to help those in Hayward and other adjacent communities facing economic or other hardships to start and grow businesses of their own. The program lasts 10 months.

The Hayward Promise Neighborhood and the College of Business and Economics at California State University manage the program in close partnership with local nonprofit groups, government offices, small businesses, and other university partners across Alameda County.

The PEI offers participants a hands-on introduction to the fundamentals of launching and growing a successful venture.

Delivered by subject matter experts, university faculty, and successful entrepreneurs, the program takes place over six consecutive Saturday mornings, typically in the Fall, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The curriculum addresses all facets of a successful venture, from developing a viable business concept and understanding your market to designing a profit model, setting up operations, marketing, and mastering basic financial principles.

The underlying focus is on cultivating an entrepreneurial mindset and resourcefulness, teaching participants how to "do more with less" and grow a venture even with limited resources. The interactive approach encourages participants to bring their own business ideas and challenges to the weekly discussions, ensuring a practical and relevant learning experience.
