Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC)

The California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) is a state agency in the Executive Branch of California. The major purpose of the agency is to serve as a state standards board for educator preparation for the public schools of California, the licensing and credentialing of professional educators in the State, the enforcement of professional practices of educators, and the discipline of credential holders in the State of California.

At the end of your professional preparation experience, you will apply to the CTC for your credential through the Credential Student Service Center (CSSC). The CSSC serves as the official university liaison office to the Commission. You can read more about the role of the CTC by visiting their website.

Please see the following CTC link to guide you on your career path - Roadmap to Teaching

New Resource for Clearing a Preliminary Teaching Credential

The Commission has a new resource at the following link for California-prepared teachers regarding the necessary requirements to upgrade from a Preliminary to a Clear Teaching credential. The resource is intended for the holders of Preliminary teaching credentials based on the completion of Commission-approved California credential programs and would be particularly useful for educators who were given TPA and/or RICA deferrals and now have them as renewal requirements.
