Rights

You have the right to an accessible campus, including all University-related activities and programs, as stated in the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADAAA)

Additional legislation pertaining to the right to an accessible education can be found in the 1973 Rehabilitation Act, specifically Sections 504 and Section 508.

Responsibilities

  • Follow AS policies and processes for implementing accommodations.
  • Notify their Accessibility Counselor if they require support with navigating  accommodation processes.
  • Notify instructor of their need for accommodations with sufficient time to reasonably put them in place. Accommodations are not retroactive, and are not required to be implemented prior to the date that their instructor is notified.
  • Notify Accessibility Counselor if currently approved accommodations are not sufficient to provide equal access.
