Our testing office is open from 8:00AM - 5 PM, Monday-Friday. Exams are administered from 8:00AM - 9:30PM. Please note, if any weekend courses, we will try our best to accommodate, however it might have to be administered at a different date if needed. We may be reached via email at astesting@csueastbay.edu or phone at 510-885- 4503, to help troubleshoot testing accommodations.
Please Note: During Summer Session, our office administers exams Monday-Thursday 8am-5pm. Zoom proctoring is available for Friday and Saturday exams if needed.
-
We try our best to accommodate when the class is taking the exam. Often, we would have an evening or Saturday course. For those exams, we will work with your instructor to ensure and provide accommodations.
In other possible cases, your instructor may authorize for your exams to be taken in our office during the week when we are normally open for proctoring, typically the prior Friday during the day or on another day in the week. If for any alternative date request, after submitting your Accessible Testing Request via google form. Please make sure to email astesting@csueastbay.edu with and email to your instructor and cc our office for a request of their approval.
-
Very Important to arrive at your scheduled start time. If a student arrives late for their scheduled exam, they will still be required to end at the originally scheduled end time. If a
student is over 30 minutes late, students will not be permitted to begin until they have received approval from their instructor (please note, often cases approvals are not granted).
If you arrive more than 30 minutes late to your scheduled exam/quiz, our testing office will only authorize you to start the exam only if your instructor has given permission to do so. Please note, this only means that the scheduled end time will remain the same and our office will not adjust or extend your end time. You will not get time back for being late for your exam. It’s the student's responsibility to arrive on time for the exam.
If our Testing office is unable to reach your instructor, to confirm if you can start your exam, we will not be able to begin the exam and we will request that you contact your instructor for what the next steps are.
-
Accessible Testing may not be able to accommodate you for your exam. You are only ensured your testing accommodations at the Accessibility Services Office, so it is very important that you get your exams scheduled with us on time. Any exam accommodation requested (less than one week in advanced) will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis, yet the University may be unable to provide proper exam arrangements.
We will make every effort to accommodate late exams requests, however, in cases where we are unable to do so your options are:
- Send an email to astesting@csueastbay.edu. Please include the following info in your email: Your name, your net id, exam date, course, course number and section, and why you were unable to book your exam on time.
- Ask your professor(s) to proctor your exam with your testing accommodations during their office hours or at any other available time, if they are able to.
- Ask your professor(s) arrange for department staff or a colleague to proctor your exam for you with your accommodations in the department office or a designated location.
- Ask your professor(s) for approval to take your exam with the Accessible Testing Office on a different day than when the class is taking the exam. Accessibility Services must receive approval from your professor(s) to take the exam(s) on a different day, or we will not schedule you. Your professor must email our Accessible Testing Office at astesting@csueastbay.edu
-
Once you have notified your instructor of your testing accommodations through the AS Portal, your instructor will extend the time in Canvas. It is recommended you remind your instructor of your accommodations a few days before you plan to take your exam.
Please note: If your extended time is not listed when you go to start your exam, do not start the exam. Instead, email your instructor and Accessibility Counselor right away.
-
It is each student’s responsibility to submit an Accommodation Notification at the beginning of the term through the AS Portal, this will send an email formally notifying the instructor of your accommodations.
-
It is best to inform the professor a week in advance of the exam so they have sufficient time to adjust the time. If you have been recently approved for accommodations, or you submit your accommodation notifications shortly before your exam, your instructor may not be able to extend the time.
If you need assistance, don't hesitate to reach out to your Accessibility Counselor.
-
Respondus should not conflict with your Text to Speech software, however, if you have questions or concerns, please reach out to us.
-
Yes. If your test is on Canvas and does not require any other software, download and install Kurzweil Read the Web to the Chrome browser on your computer. Here is a helpful tutorial on how to download Kurzweil Read the Web.
-
Some accommodations may not be possible to put in place when using Respondus Lockdown or Respondus Monitor (Reader, Scribe, Breaks, speech to Text). In these cases, please email us and we will arrange to proctor you in person or over Zoom.
-
Yes, testing accommodations apply to any time limited assessments. They do not apply to take home exams that can be completed over multiple days.
-
If your professor decides to push back or move forward the exam day for the whole class, please email astesting@csueastbay.edu and copy your professor in the email confirming to let us know what the new test day will be, and we will update your appointment with our Accessible Testing Office.
