Drop-In Hours for technical assistance:

Approval for Course Notes is typically provided through the use of Messenger Pigeon, a third party company that hires professional notetakers. Students are provided a license to Messenger Pigeon and, through submitting audio recording of their courses, they are able to receive professional summary notes.

Peer Notetakers are hired on a case by case basis for courses where Messenger Pigeon is ineffective. This requires the approval of your Accessibility Counselor.

Course Notes FAQs

  • Messenger Pigeon (MP) is a website that allows you to upload recorded audio from your class lectures. A notetaker then listens to the audio and provides notes within 48 hours.

  • At the end of each semester, your NTE account is deactivated. As of Spring 2024 NTE has transitioned to Messenger Pigeon. Once you’ve submitted your Accommodations Notifications for the semester, your account on Messenger Pigeon will be activated.

  • After submitting your Accommodation Notification, we’ll be able to activate your account. Once it’s activated, you’ll receive an email from Habitat Learn (no-reply@habitatlearn.com) allowing you to create your password. Be sure to use the link in the email as soon as possible. If not used in 72 hours, the link will expire and you’ll have to email us to send another email.

  • Messenger Pigeon can be accessed by logging in to Messenger Pigeon, or by downloading the app on your laptop or mobile device.

  • Due to their nature, we typically do not provide course notes for asynchronous courses, or courses that do not have a lecture component such as PE courses. Please let us know if you’re enrolled in one of these courses and still require course notes.

  • The optimal distance would be the front row of the classroom, though it depends on the quality of the microphone being used. If your devices microphone is insufficient to capture good audio, please reach out to notetaking@csueastbay.edu to discuss possible solutions.

  • While we will hire a peer in certain situations (courses that are heavily visual in nature), we have found that the consistency and quality of notes provided by Messenger Pigeon is better than most peer notetakers.
