The Department of History at Cal State East Bay is the editorial home to three publications.

Professor Mary Ann Irwin edits California History, a leading-edge journal offering insight into the most recent and innovative research on the state. Read by specialists as well as general reading audiences, California History began publication in 1921, and celebrates its centennial year with its January 2022 issue. Professor Greg Brueck, an expert in environmental history at Cal State East Bay, serves as the journal's book review editor. The University of California Press publishes California History, making this a unique collaboration by the University of California and California State University, here in the East Bay! We are proud to provide the official editorial home to this dynamic and important journal, and our MA students have an opportunity to work in the journals office, supporting the work of our professional editors.

Our department also publishes the exceptional undergraduate journal, East Bay Historia, which is edited and produced annually by the students in our programs. The articles published in East Bay Historia reflect advanced scholarship completed at both the BA and MA levels.

Finally, faculty in the History Department publish an annual newsletter, beloved by our Friends of History community. This newsletter shares out significant events and milestones among students, faculty, and staff in the Department of History, and among our donors and supporters. It's a lively piece of ephemera, with the most recent issues preserved for posterity here on our website!
