Two of the most fundamental concepts in ancestral DNA studies are the terms haplotype and haplogroup. In order to help you understand their meaning we have created a game or puzzle, which you may play while you tour the exhibition. As you enter the museum take an exhibit guide from the dispenser on the door. On the back of the guide you will find your mtDNA Identity Card, similar to the one shown here to the right. Your goal, using the haplotype numbers printed on the card and the information displayed in the museum, is to discover who you are and what your haplogroup is. Once you have figured it out or need a hint, you can get the answer by clicking your haplotype on one of the two computer answer kiosks located inside the museum. Below is an example of one of the answer screens and the sort of answers you might find.
