Boholano

Boholano map
  • Location: Bohol Island
  • Languages: Near variant of Cebuano
  • Subsistence: Intensive wet rice (unlike central Visayans, Boholano do not rely heavily on corn), camote, cassava, taro, beans, considerable bananas and mangos. Fishing in coastal areas.
  • Population: 845,751 (1980)

Like most Visayan groups, the Boholano have been extensively influenced by outsiders, and little of their traditional culture remains. Much production of copra; some abaca. In the south of Bohol there is a specialization in whale, dolphin, shark, and manta hunting, which has reached across to northern Mindanao.
