Announcement:

Starting Monday, September 28^th, 2026, our onsite retail pharmacy will be temporarily closed due to staffing constraints.  A candidate has been identified to filling this void, and we are working closely with our Human Resources department to completing pre-hiring requirements. In the meantime, Student Health Services (SHS) will be sending all prescriptions and refill orders to CVS Pharmacy, 26059 Mission Blvd, Hayward, CA 94544, unless you specify to us during your visit or in writing via  MyPioneerHealth of a preferred pharmacy.  Costs incurred from any non-CSU retail pharmacies are the sole responsibility of patients, and not CSUEB.

Alternatively, patients may also request prescriptions and refill orders be sent to another CSU campus’ pharmacy of their choice.  While some medications are covered under basic services, there may be items determined by that CSU campus’ pharmacy partially or not covered; in which those item(s) are the responsibility of patients; and not CSUEB.  Please note that every CSU pharmacy makes great effort to keeping costs low for all students, and are usually more competitive in pricing compared to that of non-CSU pharmacies.   

During this period, SHCS will assist with coordinating roundtrip transportation starting from CSUEB to CVS Pharmacy, 26059 Mission Blvd, Hayward, CA 94544 and or within 70 miles to another CSU pharmacy (also to and from CSUEB) at no cost to the patient; as needed.

Opioid Overdose Treatment:

Narcan® (Naloxone), the antidote that reverses opioid overdoses is available at the Student Health Center Pharmacy at no charge to students.  This free naloxone is available at the Student Health Services Pharmacy through the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) Naloxone Distribution Project.

Fentanyl Test Strips (FTS) are a harm reduction strategy designed to reduce the negative consequences of drug use, including the risk of fatal and nonfatal overdose.  FTS are small strips of paper that can detect the presence of fentanyl in all different kinds of drugs (cocaine, methamphetamine, heroin, etc.) and drug forms (pills, powder, and injectables).  Fentanyl test strips are free and available at the Student Health & Counseling Services Pharmacy.
