Dear Cal State East Bay staff,
As you may know from our April 13th message, Cal State East Bay is launching our California State University East Bay Staff Council or CSUEBSC in the Summer of 2026. The CSUEBSC will consist of ten staff representatives with eight who are elected and two who are appointed by the President.
ON-LINE NOMINATIONS ARE OPEN until April 28th at midnight. Please self-nominate or nominate a staff member to serve on the Staff Council. ON-LINE Elections will be held in June 2026.
Nominations of Representative Membership
Eligibility
Membership shall consist of Cal State East Bay full-time staff. It excludes student staff, faculty, administrators, and confidential employees. Staff who serve in the Academic Senate are not eligible during their tenure with the Academic Senate. Staff who work for the San Francisco Bay Region Network are not eligible to serve.
Representation
Representation is based on types of roles and divisional representation.
Academic Affairs Staff (1)
Administrative Office Support (1)
Advancement Staff (1)
Enrollment Management and Student Affairs Staff (1)
Health Care Staff (1)
Operations Staff (1)
Skilled Trades (1)
Auxiliaries Staff (1)
Members-at-Large (2), appointed by President to fill in.
Terms
Members shall serve a term of 2 years with the initial YEAR ONE of Staff Council consisting of 50% 2-year appointments and 50% 3-year appointments which makes appointment terms staggered so that we do not have complete turnover of council members
Vacancies
Vacancies shall be filled by solicited nominations and appointment by the President.
TIME COMMITMENT
Regular Meetings of Staff Council
The Council shall meet as a whole with the President and Cabinet twice a semester. The meetings will be 90 minutes each. Meetings will be scheduled in advance.
NOMINATION FORM
Nominations and self-nominations will be through this online form. You will be asked to indicate the representative position for which the candidate is being nominated. Please note that nominees need to confirm on their nomination form that their direct supervisor has been informed of the nominee’s intent to serve as a representative on the Staff Council which will require scheduling accommodations or release time for the twice a semester meetings of 90 minutes each.
Nominations opened on April 14, 2026 at 9am and close on April 28, 2026 at midnight.
The CSUEBSC is designed to promote communication between staff and campus leadership, support a positive and inclusive work environment, and address matters not covered by collective bargaining agreements. We are establishing the CSUEBSC because of feedback from accreditation reports, campus climate surveys, and other sources regarding the lack of staff voices and input on issues on campus.
The CSUEBSC will function similarly to the President’s Extended Cabinet. The President and cabinet meet with AVPs and above twice a semester to inform leadership across campus on current or upcoming initiatives, changes, or issues that may impact campus. These twice-a-semester meetings are also opportunities for the President and cabinet to gather feedback and perspectives across a variety of issues. Our hope is that the CSUEBSC meetings will function in a similar way and be an avenue for communication, updates, and feedback so that staff are informed about high level issues.
The CSUEB Staff Council will replace our more informal Staff Wellness Engagement and Enrichment Team (SWEET). Members of SWEET are encouraged to apply for Staff Council positions. We also acknowledge that the Academic Senate includes two staff senators. Those positions will continue under the purview of the Senate.
Thank you for all that you do on campus for our students and for each other. We hope to receive a robust number of nominations. We also look forward to having the opportunity to work with Cal State East Bay Staff Council.
Sincerely,
Cathy Sandeen
President
